Q. Is there a qualifying time for the Honolulu Ekiden?
A. The Honolulu Ekiden does not require a qualifying time.
Q. If I change my mind about running the race, can I get a refund?
A. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Q.How do I receive my race packet?
A. Race Packets can be picked up in person with a valid ID. NO EXCEPTIONS. Mandatory race packet pick-up takes place at the 2017 Honolulu Ekiden Expo (at the Hawaii Convention Center).
Any team member can pick up the packet for their team. That person will be responsible for the team sash and all teammates’ bibs and T-shirts. We provide packets by team.
Q. How can I track a runner or find individual results?
A.The progress of all runners is recorded at the starting line, each relay station, and finish line. Times for all runners will be updated regularly on race day.
Q. Is there an age limit?
A Runners must be 10 years old or older on race day. Participants under the age of 18 must provide a signed parent/guardian consent form.
When does the finish line close?
A.The cut off time is 11:30 a.m.
Can I run back to Kapiolani Park after I finish my segment?
A.No, participants are required not to interfere with active participants on that segment.
Q. Can I walk the course?
A. All participants are encouraged to run the race. Timing deadlines for each station will be strictly enforced.
Q. Can I carry food and water?
A. Yes, but there will be ten relay/aid stations located along the course serving water, snacks, and providing professional medical assistance, if needed.
Q. Can I skate the course?
A. No, all participants must run without assistance. NO assistance conveyances and unauthorized vehicles including bicycles, baby carriages, all forms of skates, support walkers, walking sticks, poles and canes, etc. will be allowed on the course on race day.
Q. Can my dog run with me?
A. Sorry, no pets allowed, including but not limited to dogs and horses.
Q. Can my friend run with me?
A. No, those not officially entered and not wearing a race number are discouraged from being on the course.
Q. Can I use my earphones/headphones?
A. Participants are discouraged from using audio or music playing devices.
Q. Can I ride a bicycle on the course?
A. No bicycles will be permitted on course unless; the bicycle is a certified course attendant for a wheelchair participant.
Q. When do I get a T-shirt?
A. The Honolulu Ekiden shirt will be passed out at the Honolulu Ekiden Expo.
Q. What is the weather like on Race Day?
A. Temperature at the start may range from 70° F and climb to 80° F or higher by 10 a.m. Be prepared for rainy conditions along the course.
Q. Can I run all six segments by myself?
A. No. A team must consist of two to six runners. For teams of five or fewer runners, a runner running more than one segment must run consecutive segments.
Q. Is there a time limit?
A. Yes, due to road use permits, all runners must follow a strict time frame.
Failure to not complete legs within these times may result in team disqualification.
Q. What if a registered team member cannot participate on race day?
A. The runner cannot be replaced. The remaining registered team members who are able to participate must run the race.
Q. Is there award money?
A. A wide range of awards will be awarded to the fastest team in each category/division. Awards will be handed out at the Awards Ceremony on race day. One award per team. Awards will not be mailed and must be claimed on race day.
Q. Is there an awards ceremony?
A. Yes, time and location of the Awards Ceremony is yet to be determined.
Q. Will there be showers and toilets provided?
A. No showers, but each station will have water, toilets and a medical staff standing by.
Q. Is there transportation to the relay stations?
A. Yes, all runners must check in first at the Kapiolani Station. Buses will be provided to each relay station. However, transportation between stations will not be provided.
Q. Is there parking at each station?
A. Parking will not be provided.
Q. Is there any way to find out about traffic?
A. Yes, we will establish a traffic advisory hotline on race day.
